Thanksgiving Ideas: Three Ways to Improve Gratitude and Three Verses About Thankfulness
Thanksgiving Ideas: Three Ways to Improve Our Gratitude
Cultivate gratitude –
We don’t just happen to be grateful. There are times we don’t feel like being grateful to anyone, for anything. But for the Christian, being thankful is not optional. We choose gratitude. It is an attitude that is consciously developed.
Document gratitude –
Hit the pause button and write down ten things for which you are grateful. Make this a habit. Write a “thanksgiving list” at least every week.
Express gratitude –
Express thankfulness to God, but also to others. Tell someone (your spouse, a friend, etc.) what you appreciate about them. Make that call. Write that note. I encourage you to do it today and every day.
Thanksgiving Ideas: Three Verses About Thanksgiving
“For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God,” (2 Corinthians 4:15, ESV).
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 4:6-7, ESV).
“Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things,” (Psalm 107:8-9, ESV).
Giving Thanks in All Seasons:
On the topic of giving thanks, I also want to share a deeper context of gratitude during hard times from my personal story. It’s not always easy, but remembering to be grateful in all seasons brings so much peace. I have experienced this with my recent health situation. Regarding my health experience, I’m honored to have been interviewed recently by Barbara Beck on the Welcome Home show. This was an inspiring episode to be a part of, so I’ve included it below. It also features some more ideas about Thanksgiving. You can catch it on the air (Good Life 45) today at 7:00pm and for two weeks after that… every other day four times a day. Thank you again to Good Life for having me and for the fruitful conversation on gratitude.
I’m wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving week (from me and everyone at LifeEquip)!
