5 Amazing Facts About Heaven for Preaching & Encouragement

One of the most encouraging descriptions in the Bible is the picture we’re given of Heaven. If you or someone you know is looking for encouragement or if you’re a pastor looking for material to use in a sermon on Heaven, I pray the following facts about Heaven will fill your needs today.

5 Facts About Heaven:

  1. Heaven is a place of personal fulfillment –

Only eternity can satisfy the desires of our hearts. Only what God has prepared for us can fulfill us. The reason we will experience fulfillment in Heaven is because in Heaven we will be perfect in both body and soul. We live in decaying, limited bodies and our thoughts and feelings are tainted with the failure of sin. Sin has caused us to be less than our full selves. We are not the person God made us to be. But that will change in Heaven. In Heaven, we’ll be guiltless and perfect… we’ll love every millennium of it.

  1. We’ll have perfect bodies in Heaven –

The Bible says our bodies will be glorified. That means they will be made perfect.

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself,” (Philippians 3:20-21, ESV).

What is Jesus’ glorious body? It is the body He has had since His resurrection from the dead. He was put to death and then God raised Him from the dead and He had a resurrected body. He was recognizable, just like we will be in Heaven. He could eat, be touched, and feel being touched, just like you will in your glorified body. And He could transport Himself instantly from one spot to another. That’s what you will be able to do in the vastness of Heaven.

  1. Heaven is a place of incredible beauty –

Out of the new Heaven and new Earth will come a new city (it could be considered the capital city of Heaven). We’re not told it’s the only city, but it’s a big and dazzling city.

“The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass,” (Revelation 21:19-21, ESV).

  1. We’ll experience awesome community/fellowship in Heaven –

Hebrews 12:22 tells us that Heaven is a populated place, not a place of loneliness and isolation…

“But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven.”

  1. There will be perfect pleasure in Heaven –

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore,” (Psalm 16:11, ESV).

Joy (continual, unending, fullness of joy) will be all we know in Heaven. We will face no sadness, no sorrow, no disappointment, no depression, no discouragement, no anxiety – just joy, joy, joy!

Heaven is amazing. We’re told so much detail about it not just so we know what’s ahead, but so we take hope and endure through the journey of life now.
